Importing/exporting customers in bulk
You can use ShopWired's customer import/export system to create and edit customers in bulk via a spreadsheet that you upload into your ShopWired account.
The customer import/export system allows you to:
- Create new customers
- Update existing customers
- By taking an export of existing customers, making changes, and uploading the file
- Assign custom field data to customers
You can also use the customer export system to of all the customers in your account.
In a customer import/export spreadsheet, each customer is contained within its own row, and each column contains specific information and data about the customer. The column headings are fixed and must correspond exactly with the headings set by ShopWired.

To export your customer information into a CSV file:
- Navigate to Customers
- Select
export
- Use the
type
option to select which type of customers you want to export- Select
all
to export all customers - Select
that accept marketing
to only export customers that have requested to - Select
that don't accept marketing
to only export customers that have requested not to receive marketing communications
- Select
- Select
prepare your export
- Wait for the export to generate and then select
download your export
You can open a CSV file in spreadsheet editing software such as Excel or Google Sheets.

To create new customers through the customer import system:
- Navigate to Customers
- Select
import
- Select
download import template
- A CSV file containing ShopWired's required customer import format will be downloaded to your device
- Open the template in spreadsheet editing software such as Excel or Google Sheets
- Add customer information to the spreadsheet file and, once complete, save it as a CSV file
- Follow the customer import column definitions guidance below
- On the Customers page, select
import
and select the created import file from your device - Select
upload and process file
- Wait whilst your customer import is processed

To update your existing customer information through the customer import/export system:
- Navigate to Customers
- Select

- Use the

- Make changes to the customer information, leaving the
ID

- Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file
- On the Customers page, select
import
and select the import file from your device - Select

- Wait whilst your customer import is processed
