Multi-factor authentication
is the process of verifying ownership of an account in two (or more) ways when logging in. On ShopWired, when multi-factor authentication is not enabled, you only need to enter your password to log in to your account.
When you enable multi-factor authentication, you will need to enter your password and a 6-digit verification code generated by an authenticator app.
Enabling multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account to protect your business’s and your customer’s details. As such, ShopWired strongly recommends that you enable MFA on your account.
Enabling MFA
To enable MFA on your account:
- Ensure you have the downloaded to your device
- Navigate to Your account (top right) > Account settings
- In the Multi-Factor authentication section, select
activate multi-factor authentication
- Scan the QR code that's displayed in your ShopWired account using the Google Authenticator app on your device
- When prompted, enter the password for your ShopWired account and the code supplied by your authenticator app
- Select the
activate multi-factor authentication
option
Once successfully activated, a notice will be displayed confirming that MFA is active. Follow the instructions below to download your backup code.
MFA backup code
MFA backup code
When activating MFA for the first time, you should take note of the MFA backup code displayed within your ShopWired account, ideally writing it down on a piece of paper and keeping it safe and secure.
If you lose your MFA device or are otherwise unable to gain access to your ShopWired account, you will be able to use your backup code to bypass the MFA process.
Your MFA backup code can only be used once and should only be used if you are unable to access your authenticator app.
Regenerating your MFA backup code
If you have lost your MFA backup code and need to regenerate it, you can generate a new code under the Your backup code option in the Multi-factor authentication section on the Account settings page.
Once you have confirmed that you want to generate a new code, the new backup code will then be displayed to you. This is the only time that the code will be displayed.
Accessing your account if you cannot access your MFA app
Accessing your account if you cannot access your MFA app
If you lose access to your MFA app, you should use your backup code to access your account. You can only use your backup code once. If you don’t think you’ll be able to access your MFA app again, then once you have accessed your account using the backup code, please contact support for help.
If you have lost your backup code, then please contact support for help with accessing your account.
MFA for user accounts
MFA for user accounts
Any user accounts which you have set up to have access to your website can also set up MFA within their account. They will need to set this up themselves following the same activation process that you used in your account.
If the user needs to deactivate MFA for any reason:
- Navigate to Your Account (top right) > User accounts
- De-select the
MFA
option displayed for the user account you want to deactivate MFA for - Ask your user account to re-attempt logging into their account
