Virtual terminal
You can use the Virtual Terminal within your ShopWired account to process card payments from your customers without creating an order within ShopWired.
Navigate to ShopWired Payments > Virtual terminal.
Enter the details of the transaction into the form provided:
- Transaction description is a description for the transaction that will be displayed to you when viewing the transaction information within your ShopWired account
- Enter a value under 255 characters in this setting
- Customer email address is the customer's email address so that they can receive an email receipt of the transaction
- The email receipt is only sent if you have enabled the For a successful transaction email notification
- Cardholder name must be entered exactly as it appears on the customer's card
- The Card number, Card expiry and Security code are all entered as normal
- The Amount must be entered up to 2 decimal places with no thousands separator, e.g.
2345.01
3D Secure authentication
When a transaction is initiated through the virtual terminal, ShopWired Payments marks it as MOTO
(Mail Order / Telephone Order) which indicates to the card issuing bank not to initiate the .
The ultimate decision of whether to grant an exemption is with the cardholder's issuing bank, who may ultimately decide to decline the transaction.
Managing virtual terminal transactions

Transactions created through the virtual terminal do not have a corresponding order within your ShopWired account. They can be managed by navigating to the Transactions page within your ShopWired account, selecting the transaction to view the full details.
You can manage virtual terminal transaction in the same way as standard transactions.
When viewing the transaction information:
- The Description, in the Payment details section, displays with the description entered
- The Payment type, in the Payment method section, displays as
Virtual terminal
In the Activity report the Description
column displays with the transaction description (in place of the order reference). Virtual terminal transactions do not display a value in the VAT
column.

If a virtual terminal transaction is unsuccessful and payment cannot be collected from the customer's card, it will be displayed on the Payments & transactions](https://admin.myshopwired.uk/shopwired-payments/payments?filter=failed)! page within ShopWired.
The transactions decline reason will be displayed in the Status
column.

Transactions placed through the virtual terminal attract the same processing fees as other transactions placed on your ShopWired Payments account.
