Discounts on subscriptions

Discount stacking is enabled by default for subscriptions. This means that a percentage subscription discount can apply in addition to an applicable sale price and an eligible voucher code when a customer purchases a subscription.

This guide explains pricing at checkout for subscription plans with a percentage discount. It does not describe fixed-price plans or how renewal payments are calculated. Read more about creating and managing subscription plans.

When a customer purchases a subscription with a percentage discount, ShopWired calculates the product price as follows:

• Uses the applicable sale price, if there is one, instead of the normal price
• Applies the percentage subscription discount to that price
• Applies an eligible voucher code to the remaining value, subject to the voucher's restrictions and any applicable offer rules

A sale price set directly on the product takes precedence over a category percentage sale. These two sale reductions are not applied together.

For example, a product normally costs £10 and has a sale price of £8. With a 10% subscription discount, the subscription purchase price is £7.20 before any eligible voucher code is applied.

Percentage discounts apply one after another; they are not added together.

If you do not want subscription discounts to combine with other discounts, contact support who will disable discount stacking for your account.

With stacking disabled, a product purchased using a percentage-discount subscription plan:

• Uses its normal price rather than a product or category sale price
• Receives the subscription percentage discount on its normal price
• Is excluded from voucher code discounts

For the same £10 product with a 10% subscription discount, the subscription purchase price is £9, even if the one-off purchase price is £8 in a sale. Disabling stacking does not automatically select the lowest available price.

A subscription plan using the No modifier pricing rule continues to use the ordinary sale price and voucher code eligibility rules.
