PayPal

PayPal Checkout is ShopWired's recommended integration with PayPal and allows your visitors to complete their orders using their PayPal account or a credit/debit card (where PayPal offers a guest checkout option).

If you already have a PayPal account, you can connect it to ShopWired in just a couple of minutes, or you can open a new PayPal account from within your ShopWired account:

1. Navigate to Checkout > Accepting payments
2. Select connect with PayPal
3. Log in to your existing PayPal account or create a new one by following the onscreen instructions

Once you've connected your PayPal account to ShopWired, you'll be able to select various settings which affect how your visitors can complete their orders using PayPal:

• Automatically capture payments - select yes to automatically capture payments at the time the transaction is placed or select no to capture payments later (through your ShopWired account)
• Enable on the basket page - select yes to display PayPal as a payment option on your website's shopping basket page (visitors can log in to their PayPal account and use their saved addresses to complete checkout)
• Enable on the payment page - select yes to display PayPal as a payment option on your website's checkout page
• Allow customers to vault a PayPal account - select yes to allow your visitors to connect their PayPal account to their customer account on your website for faster checkout later
• Button size - select the size of the PayPal button that appears on your website
• Button colour - select the colour of the PayPal button that appears on your website

When processing payments using PayPal Checkout, you can capture payments through your ShopWired account (when you have selected to capture payments later) and issue refunds for PayPal orders through your ShopWired account.

PayPal offers a guest checkout feature for your website visitors to complete their payment without logging into a PayPal account. However, the availability of guest checkout is determined by PayPal and is not controlled by ShopWired.

The availability of guest checkout is determined by a number of different factors:

• The type of device being used by the visitor
• Whether the visitor has previously logged into a PayPal account on their device/browser
• PayPal's assessment of the behaviour of the visitor and whether there is a higher than normal risk of the transaction being fraudulent

PayPal Website Payments Pro Hosted is an API-based integration between ShopWired and PayPal, which allows merchants to accept payments through both PayPal accounts and credit/debit cards.

As of 4th December 2023, PayPal no longer accepts new merchants onto PayPal Website Payments Pro Hosted and so this payment integration is only available if you already have an eligible PayPal account.

To confirm if your PayPal account is eligible, you must contact PayPal's support team.

ShopWired's integration with PayPal (through PayPal Checkout) is automatically capable of allowing your visitors to use either PayPal Credit or PayPal Pay in 3.

You do not need to make any changes to your PayPal configuration within ShopWired, or on your website's theme, to accept payment through either of these payment methods.

However, additional configuration within your PayPal account may be necessary. For more information, you must contact PayPal's support team.

To offer PayPal Pay In 3, you may be required by PayPal to add messaging onto your website:

• If you are using a Version 5 ShopWired theme, this can be added using ShopWired's PayPal & Klarna credit messaging theme app
• If you are using an earlier theme version, you can add the necessary code provided by PayPal to your website by editing your theme files or alternatively contact theme support for assistance

PayPal powered by Braintree is a payment gateway offered by PayPal utilising the Braintree platform.

PayPal powered by Braintree can be activated in your ShopWired account in the same way as any other payment gateway on ShopWired.

Existing ShopWired users may be using one of ShopWired's older PayPal integrations, such as PayPal Payments Pro or PayPal Express. These payment integrations are deprecated and no longer available to new ShopWired users.

ShopWired does not currently offer any other integrations with PayPal; however, ShopWired will be launching an integration with PayPal Commerce in 2025.
