Creating and managing plans
A subscription plan defines how often a subscription renews, whether it has a free trial or a limit on the number of orders, and how the price of each subscribed product is calculated. Create a plan, then assign the products or product variations that customers should be able to purchase using it.
Create all the plans you need before activating the new subscription system. A plan without product assignments does not make any products available to purchase as subscriptions. If you have not connected the app, follow the Subscriptions v2 setup guide first.
Create a plan
- Navigate to Apps > Subscriptions in your ShopWired account
- Navigate to Plans and select
Create plan - Enter a Plan name
- Complete the settings in Billing and Pricing
- Select whether the plan is Enabled
- Select
Create plan
The app displays the new plan after it is created. Assign products or product variations to the plan before expecting customers to see it on your website.
Plan settings
Plan settings
Plan name
Enter a name of up to 100 characters. Customers may see this name on your website, in their basket and on their orders, so use wording that clearly identifies the subscription option.
Enabled
Enable the plan when you want customers to be able to subscribe to products assigned to it. A disabled plan is unavailable for new subscription purchases.
Disabling a plan does not pause or cancel existing subscriptions. Use Contracts to manage existing subscriptions.
Bill every
Enter how often the subscription should renew, using a whole number from 1 to 9,999 and an interval of days, months or years.
For example, enter 2 and select months to renew every two months. For a weekly subscription, enter 7 and select days.
This setting controls the time between renewals, not the number of orders.
Ends after
Select Unlimited, until cancelled if the subscription has no set order limit.
To limit the subscription, select A set number of orders and enter the total in Number of orders. The limit includes the first order. For example, a limit of 6 allows the first order and 5 renewal orders.
Free trial
Select No free trial or A free trial. If you add a free trial, enter the number of days in Trial length.
The first renewal is scheduled for the end of the free trial. Read more about renewals and failed payments.
Price
Select one of the following options for the price of each product or product variation assigned to the plan:
Normal priceuses the product or variation's priceFixed priceapplies the same fixed unit price to each assigned product or variationDiscountreduces each product or variation's price by the percentage you enter
If you select Fixed price, enter the amount in Fixed price, including VAT. Select Check price without VAT to review the amount that will be saved in ShopWired using your account's currency and VAT settings.
The fixed price applies to each unit, not to the subscription as a whole. If several products are assigned to the plan, each uses that fixed unit price.
If you select Discount, enter the percentage in Discount. Enter a number greater than 0 and up to 100, with up to four decimal places.
Assign products and product variations
Assign products and product variations
- Navigate to Plans and select the plan
- In Add products, enter a product name or SKU code in Product name or SKU
- Select
Search products - Review the base product and any variations, including their exact SKU codes
- Select the products or variations to assign to the plan
- Select
Add to plan - Check Products on this plan to confirm that the intended products and SKU codes are listed
Each assignment identifies one product and its exact SKU code. A product variation must be assigned using its own SKU code. Products or variations without a usable SKU code cannot be selected. The same product and SKU code cannot be assigned twice to one plan.
Searching does not reserve stock. Review the ShopWired check column and Product check message for missing products or SKU codes. These checks do not confirm stock availability or whether customers can purchase the product. Check the relevant product in ShopWired before activating the new system.
Your theme must also display the plans available for the selected product or variation. Follow the guide to displaying subscriptions on your website.
One-off purchasing
One-off purchasing
The Buy without a subscription column in Products on this plan shows whether each assigned product can also be purchased without a subscription.
This setting cannot be edited in the Subscriptions app. Select the product's name to view it in ShopWired and review or edit its one-off purchasing setting. If the app cannot confirm the setting, check the product in ShopWired.
When one-off purchasing is allowed, your theme must display the one-off purchase option alongside the available subscription plans. When it is not allowed, a visitor must select a subscription plan to purchase the product.
Read more about displaying subscription and one-off purchase options.
Edit or copy a plan
Edit or copy a plan
To edit a plan, navigate to Plans, select the plan and select Edit plan. Edit the required settings, then select Save changes.
Changes to a plan affect future subscription purchases. Existing contracts retain the settings recorded when the customer subscribed. To change an existing subscription, follow the guide to managing contracts.
To add a separate plan based on an existing one, select Copy plan. Review its name, billing and pricing settings, then select Create plan.
The copy starts with Enabled deselected, and product assignments are not copied. Leave it disabled until you have assigned its products or variations and checked its settings. The original plan remains unchanged.
Fixed prices are not copied. If the copied plan uses Fixed price, enter the amount again, including VAT.
If the app reports that a plan changed in ShopWired while you were editing it, note any changes you want to keep, then reload the page and review the latest settings before saving again.
If the app cannot confirm whether a change was saved, select Check status where available. Do not repeat the change while its outcome remains unconfirmed.

- Navigate to the plan and locate the product in Products on this plan

Removing or replacing an assignment does not change existing orders or contracts.

Import or export plans
Import or export plans
Select Import CSV from Plans to navigate to Import and export.
On the Import plans and products tab, download the template and complete it with your plan and product information. Upload the completed file and select Check file. Correct every row with an error before selecting Import plans and products.
Importing plans and assignments does not activate the new subscription system.
