Creating a product
You can create products through your ShopWired account either one by one, or by using the product import system.
To create a product within your ShopWired account:
- Navigate to Products > Create product
- Enter the details of the product
- Only the Product title/name setting is required when creating a product, all other settings are optional
- If your product is available in different options use the:
- Product variations feature,
- Product choices feature, or
- Product extras features to add those options
- Read a comparison of variations, choices and extras
- When you create a product it will be immediately visible on your website, to hide the product set the product's status as
inactive
on the products page
Each of the settings available when creating a product are described in detail in the corresponding sections below. Some settings and features are only available when the corresponding app is installed in your ShopWired account.
Name & description

Title/name
- Enter a Title/name that describes the product being listed for sale
- This field is required
Product description
- Use the Product description setting to enter a description for the product, describing it in detail
- Consider using the Tabbed product descriptions app to split product descriptions into different tabs/headings
- Product descriptions are a great way to improve the
- Use ShopWired's text editor to format and style the text

Use the Product description 2, Product description 3, Product description 4, Product description 5 settings to segment information into different tabbed headings, visible on the product's page on your website:
- These settings are only available if the Tabbed product descriptions app is installed
- Product descriptions should describe, in detail, the product being sold
- Product descriptions are a great way to improve the

Images
Images
Upload images for the product in the Product media > Images section.
Uploading product images
You can upload up to 5 images for each product by default. If you need to add more, you can change a setting in your ShopWired account.
You can drag and drop your files directly into the upload area or select browse
to select them from your device. Once uploaded, images will appear in a list where you can:
- Select the
edit image
option to crop, resize, or rotate the image using ShopWired's image editor - Add ALT tags to improve accessibility and SEO
Recommendations for product images
- Use clear, high-quality images that show your product in detail
- Keep all images across your website the same shape and size for a uniform appearance

Re-ordering images
Once the product has been saved, you can rearrange the order of the product images using the compass
icon by dragging and dropping the image into a new position.
Image limits
Images you upload must be:
- Less than 6000px in height
- Less than 6000px in width
- Less than 4MB in file size
- In JPG, PNG or GIF format
- Animated GIFs are supported
Video
Video
Product video embedding code
Add videos to the product in the Product media > Videos section:
- You can add a video to your product by adding from a video hosting website such as YouTube or Vimeo into the Video embedding code setting
- Videos must be hosted on a video hosting website, you cannot upload videos directly into your ShopWired account
- The Video embedding code setting should only contain a single video. For more than one video for a product, do not enter multiple embedding codes into a single setting
- Use the multiple product videos app to add multiple videos
Categories
Categories
Assign categories to the product in the Product categorisation > Categories section:
- Select the categories to assign the product to using the setting provided
- Use the
add another
option to assign the product to multiple categories - Products can only be assigned to
- By default, you can assign a product to up to 3 categories
- If you need to assign more than 3 categories, change a setting within your ShopWired account
Brands

Assign a brand to the product in the Product categorisation > Brands section:
- This section is only available when the Brands app is installed
- Select the brand to assign the product to using the setting provided

Filters

Configure filters for the product in the Product categorisation > Filters section:
- This section is only available when the Product filters app is installed
- For each filter group you've created, assign the relevant filters for the product
- If a filter group doesn’t apply to the product, leave it de-selected
- Enter multiple filters for the same group by separating them with a comma

Prices
Prices
Configure pricing information for the product in the Product pricing > Prices section:
- The Product price setting is used to set the normal selling price for the product
- The Product sale price setting is used to set a custom sale price for the product
- Any variations you create for a product that do not have their own price set will inherit the product price and/or product sale price
- The Product RRP setting is used to set a recommended retail price (RRP) for the product
- The RRP is for display purposes only
- The Cost price setting is used to set the product's cost price
- This setting is only available when using the gross profit app
VAT
VAT
Configure VAT information for the product in the Product pricing > VAT section:
- This section is only available when your ShopWired account is indicated as registered for VAT
- If the product attracts the standard rate of VAT you don't need to change any of the settings in this section

The product is zero-rated/exempt from VAT
- If the product you are selling is zero-rated or exempt from VAT, select the setting The product is zero-rated/exempt from VAT
- This setting will not be displayed if you have the VAT features app installed
- If a product is marked as zero-rated/exempt, all variations will be treated as zero-rated
- This cannot be overridden at the variation level - the VAT status of the main product takes precedence
- Individual variations can be marked as zero-rated/exempt if the product is not configured that way
- If a product is marked as zero-rated/exempt, all product choices and product extras will be treated as zero-rated
Custom VAT rate
- This setting is only displayed if you have the VAT features app installed
- If the product has a custom VAT rate, enter the rate as a percentage (up to 4 decimal places are supported)
- If a product has a custom VAT rate:
- Product variations will use the custom VAT rate of the product unless you specify a different custom VAT rate specifically for that variation
- Product choices will always inherit the custom VAT rate of the parent product, and you cannot set a different rate for choices
- Product extras will always inherit the custom VAT rate of the parent product, and you cannot set a different rate for extras
- If the product is zero-rated/exempt select the
zero
option in the setting
The product is eligible for VAT relief
- This setting is only displayed if you have the VAT features app installed
- Select this setting if the product is eligible for VAT relief

Sales tax

Configure sales tax information for the product in the Product pricing > Sales tax section:
- This section is only available for ShopWired users within the USA

The product is exempt from sales tax
- Select this option if the product is exempt from sales tax in all US states
- Do not select this option if the product is only exempt from sales tax in only some US states
- If the product is exempt from sales tax in some US states, but not others, create a custom sales tax rate
Sales tax code
- Select a sales tax code from the list of tax codes available
- Select the most appropriate tax code for the product
- The list of sales tax codes is determined by and cannot be edited
Bulk pricing

Configure bulk pricing rules for the product in the Product pricing > Bulk pricing section:
- This section is only available when the Bulk pricing app is installed

Reward points

Configure reward points for the product in the Product pricing > Reward points section:
- This section is only available when the Reward points app is installed
- This section and setting is unavailable if you have configured your ShopWired account to calculate reward points automatically from the customer's order value

Reward points earned
- Enter the number of reward points the visitor will earn when ordering the product
- Any variations you create for the product that do not have their own reward points earned value will inherit the value set in this setting
- You can set a value for the reward points earned for each product variation separately, when configuring variation attributes
Stock management

Configure stock information for the product in the Stock & delivery > Stock management section:
SKU code
- Enter a SKU code if you want to track stock for the product

Stock quantity
- Enter the current Stock quantity to set the amount of stock currently available for the product
- You can enter a negative stock quantity value
- Any variations you create for the product that do not have their own SKU code will inherit the stock quantity value from the product
Stock alerts
- This setting will only appear if you have the Stock alerts app installed
- To configure a stock alert for the product, select
enable

- Enter any warehouse notes for the product into the setting

Delivery

Configure delivery information for the product in the Stock & delivery > Delivery section:
Weight
- If you have configured , you must enter a value for the product in the Weight setting in order for those delivery rates to be available for the product
- You can enter weights up to 4 decimal places
- Find out how to change your ShopWired account's weight unit
A delivery address is not required for the product
- Select this setting if the product is a digital item, service, or if you don't need to collect a delivery address for orders of this product
- If every item in the visitor's basket is set to not require a delivery address, only a billing address will be requested at checkout
Configure specific delivery pricing for the product
- Use this setting to configure specific delivery pricing for the product (including offering free delivery for the product)
- Products with specific delivery pricing are excluded from your checkout's calculations of the applicable delivery rates to offer to visitors
- If all the products in a visitor's basket have a specific delivery price, the visitor will not need to select a delivery rate

Configure stock on back order settings for the product in the Stock & delivery > Stock on back order options section:
- This section is only available when the Stock on back order app is installed
- If you don't configure the settings in this section, the product will inherit the default back order options set for your ShopWired account

Configure minimum and maximum order quantities for the product in the Stock & delivery > Min & max quantities section:
- This section is only available when the Min/max order quantity app is installed
- Use the Minimum order quantity setting to set the minimum quantity that visitors must add to their basket
- Use the Maximum order quantity setting to set the maximum quantity that visitors are permitted to add to their basket
- If you've defined quantity restrictions in the Global minimum order quantity and/or Global maximum order quantity settings these cannot be overridden at the product level

Configure pre-order options for the product in the Stock & delivery > Pre-order options section:
- This section is only available when the Pre-order products app is installed

Ships-on date
- The Ships-on date is for information purposes only
- Select the ships-on date for the product, this will be displayed on your website
- Products with a ships-on date in the future are considered pre-order products
Release on website date/time
- The Release on website (date) and Release on website (time) settings determine:
- The time/date that visitors will be able to add the product to their basket
- The time/date that the product will be displayed on category pages and in search results
- The product will always be accessible at its direct URL, irrespective of the values in this setting

Search keywords
- This setting is only available if the Product search keywords app is installed
- Enter additional search keywords for the product, separating multiple keywords/keyphrases with a comma
Mark the product with the 'new' indicator
- Select this setting to mark the product with the new indicator
- If selected, your website's theme will display the product with an indicator that the product is new
- The display of the new indicator is determined by your website's theme
The product is excluded from trade discounts
- This setting is only available if the Trade customers app is installed
- Select this setting to prevent the global price discounts setting from being applied to the product
Search engine optimisation (SEO)
Search engine optimisation (SEO)
Use the settings in the SEO section to configure the product's SEO tags:
- ShopWired will automatically create SEO tags for the product where values are not specified
- If SEO tags are being generated automatically the settings will display

- The title tag and page URL are created from the product's name
- The meta description is created from the category description
- You can override these automatic tags by entering your own values into the Title tag, Page URL and Meta description settings
- ShopWired does not automatically complete the meta keywords field which is deprecated
