Migrating from Subscriptions v1
If you use ShopWired's legacy Subscriptions app, installing the new Subscriptions app does not change how your website creates subscriptions. Prepare your plans and theme while the earlier app continues to manage existing subscriptions.
Activation is the final step. Once you activate the new system, new subscription purchases use the new app. Existing subscriptions remain in the earlier system and continue to renew there. They are not converted into contracts in the new app.
Prepare your subscription plans
- Install and connect the new Subscriptions app in your ShopWired account
- Create a plan for each subscription option you intend to offer
- Configure each plan's subscription interval, price or discount, free trial and order limit, where applicable
- Assign the products and product variations that customers should be able to purchase using each plan
- Enable the plans you intend to offer when you activate the new system
- Review the plans and assignments to confirm that all intended subscription options are available
Follow the Subscriptions v2 setup guide to install and connect the app, then read about creating and managing plans.
Creating one enabled plan does not mean your account is ready to activate. Complete the full set of plans and product assignments your website needs first.
If you have many plans or assignments, use the import/export system to prepare them in bulk. Importing plans does not activate the new system or convert existing subscriptions.
Update your theme
Update your theme to display the new subscription options and submit the selected plan when a visitor adds a product to their basket.
Check that the theme:
- Displays the plans assigned to the selected product or variation
- Submits the selected plan's ID and version
- Displays a one-off purchase option where the product allows it
- Clears the previous selection when the visitor changes variation
- Displays the selected plan beside the correct basket and order item
Follow the full instructions for displaying subscriptions on your website, including the changes to order confirmation emails and invoice PDFs.
The customer subscription portal is hosted outside your theme. Add a Manage subscriptions link so customers can reach it. If customers have earlier subscriptions, retain a separate link to the legacy subscription pages. Follow the customer subscription management guide for the links and sign-in email setup.
A plan readiness result in the app does not confirm that your website's theme is ready. Contact theme support if you need help implementing or testing the changes.
Activate the new system
Only complete these steps after all your plans and theme changes are ready:
- Navigate to Apps > Subscriptions in your ShopWired account
- Navigate to Activation
- Check Which app creates new subscriptions to confirm that you are viewing the intended ShopWired account
- Review Before you switch and resolve any issues with permissions, enabled plans or product assignments
- Review What switching changes
- Select all three confirmations to confirm that you have checked the products, prepared the plans and theme, and understand that the switch applies across your account
- Select
Switch new subscriptions to this app - Wait for the app to confirm the switch
If the app displays Give permission to switch, select it and authorise the requested permissions in ShopWired. After returning to the app, allow it to complete its data update, then return to Activation and review the checks again.
A product check marked Check yourself requires you to review the products and SKU codes on your enabled plans. Do not treat an enabled plan as confirmation that every assignment is correct.
After a confirmed switch, Activation displays New subscriptions use this app. The New subscriptions are created by setting shows This app.
Activation changes the system used for new subscription purchases across your ShopWired account. It does not move existing subscriptions from the earlier app.
After activation
Check the website and app together:
- Confirm that the website displays the intended subscription options for each product and variation
- Complete a subscription purchase and confirm that the new app shows its contract and initial order
- Check that the contract contains the correct products, quantities and subscription terms
- Include a checkout requiring bank authentication, such as 3-D Secure, when checking the payment flow
- Confirm that a completed one-off purchase does not create a subscription contract
- Check that customers can sign in to the new customer portal
- Confirm that customers with earlier subscriptions can still reach the legacy subscription pages
A successful payment or order confirmation alone does not prove that a subscription contract was created. Check the contract in the app.
Use the new app to manage new subscription contracts. Continue to manage subscriptions created before activation in the earlier system.
Review subscription settings and notifications and renewals and failed payments to check how future renewals and payment failures are handled.
