Subscriptions v2 setup
Install the new Subscriptions app in your ShopWired account to prepare subscription plans, configure renewals and manage customer subscriptions.
Installing the app does not activate the new subscription system or change how new subscriptions are created on your website.
If you use the legacy Subscriptions app, existing subscriptions continue to renew there after activation. They are not converted into contracts in the new app.
Install and connect the app
- Navigate to Apps > Available apps in your ShopWired account and locate the new Subscriptions app
- Install the app
- Review and authorise the connection to your ShopWired account
- Navigate to Apps > Subscriptions to use the app
The app uses the granted permissions to access the ShopWired information needed to manage subscriptions. Review these permissions on Connection.
Check the connection
Check the connection
- Navigate to Connection in the Subscriptions app
- Check Shop to confirm that the app is connected to the correct ShopWired account
- Review Status and any message explaining whether action is needed
- Check App permissions for permissions that have not been granted
- Check Last full check to confirm that the app has completed its full data check
The app needs a working connection and a completed full data check before it can change ShopWired subscription records.
If Connection asks you to reconnect or grant permissions, navigate to Apps > Subscriptions in your ShopWired account and authorise the request.
Select Refresh connection details to reload the connection information and request a check for recent changes. Select View data checks to review data updates on Issues.
If the connection still needs attention after reconnecting, contact the support team.
Check the payment method
Check the payment method
Subscription orders support ShopWired Payments, Stripe and the Offline Payment Method.
Check that the payment method you intend to offer is configured in your ShopWired account before accepting subscription purchases.
Online subscriptions use the payment method recorded on their contract for future renewal payments. Offline contracts can be viewed and managed in the app, but their renewal orders are not created automatically. Payment retry rules do not apply to offline contracts.
Read more about renewals and failed payments.
Configure renewal settings
Configure renewal settings
Navigate to Payment retries and alerts to configure failed payment retries and the alerts your team receives.
- In Payment retry rules, configure the delays under When to try again
- Select what should happen under If every attempt fails
- Select
Save retry rules - In Alerts, select the categories your team should receive under Send alerts for
- Enter your customer-facing email address in Send emails from
- Add your team's alert email addresses under Recipients
- Enable Send alerts by email if email delivery is available
- Select
Save alert settings
The proposed retry settings do not apply until you save them. The page shows whether automatic retries are available.
Retry rules and alert settings are saved separately. Saving one does not save changes to the other.
Send emails from is also used for customer payment-link emails and customer portal sign-in codes. Use an inbox your team monitors.
The addresses under Recipients receive team alerts. Customer payment links and portal sign-in codes are sent to the relevant customer's address instead.
Follow the subscription settings and notifications guide for the retry limits, final actions and email settings.
Prepare plans and your theme
Prepare plans and your theme
Create every subscription plan you intend to offer and assign the relevant products or product variations. Enable the plans that should be available when you activate the new system.
Follow the guide to creating and managing plans. For larger sets of plans or assignments, use the import/export system.
Update your theme to:
- Display the plans available for each product or variation
- Submit the selected plan when a visitor adds a product to their basket
- Offer a one-off purchase where the product allows it
- Display the selected plan in the basket and order information
- Give customers access to the customer subscription portal
Follow the guide to displaying subscriptions on your website, including the separate changes to order confirmation emails and invoice PDFs.
Contact theme support if you need help implementing or checking the changes.
Set up customer access
Set up customer access
Navigate to Customer portal to view your portal address and configure its font and colours.
Check Customer sign-in emails to confirm that a sending email address is configured. Customers need an emailed code to sign in. The app also needs the Customer details permission shown on Connection.
Add a Manage subscriptions link to your website's customer account pages. If customers still have subscriptions in the earlier system, retain a separate link to the legacy subscription pages.
Follow the customer subscription management guide for the theme links, sign-in process and appearance settings.
Activate the new system
Activate the new system
Activate only after your plans, product assignments and theme changes are ready.
- Navigate to Activation
- Confirm that you are viewing the intended ShopWired account
- Review Before you switch and resolve any issues shown
- Review What switching changes
- Select all three confirmations after completing the required checks
- Select
Switch new subscriptions to this app - Wait for the app to confirm the switch
If the app displays Give permission to switch, select it and authorise the request in ShopWired. Allow the app to complete its data update, then return to Activation and review the checks again.
The app's readiness checks do not confirm that your theme is ready or that you have created every plan your website needs. Review these yourself before switching.
After activation, check that a completed subscription purchase creates the correct contract and initial order in the new app.
Follow the migration guide for the full activation checks and the effect on existing subscriptions. Use the managing contracts guide to review and manage new subscriptions.
